SummaryRygar RedonePros: The environment is fully interactive which adds to the fun factor of this game. As Rygar, you can destroy practically anything you want in the environment and earn neat little power ups. The disk armor is a neat innovation that acts like a lethal yo-yo. The setting of Greece works for the storyline and adds historical relevance to the gameplay experience. For some gamers, it may inspire them to research and learn more about Greek culture. The graphics were well done and the overall replay value is moderately high. The orchestrated music added a unique flavor that complemented the Greek setting very nicely.
Cons: While the setting of ancient Greece adds an interesting tone, the setting is NOT historically accurate. Cleopatra was not a "bad guy" in real life, and furthermore she was bit darker in complexion than the game portrayed her to be. The voice acting is atrocious at best. Hearing the dialogue in the cutscenes were unbearable because not one person voicing the characters could act! The movement of Rygar was a bit choppy for my tastes. He didn't move realistically. The puzzles in the game weren't very intuitive, they were just wastes of time.
Reviewer's Comments
This game has potential and I'd like to see where Tecmo takes it with a sequel. However, the voice acting and the historical inaccuracy make this game less than great. If I had to grade the game on a scale of A through F, this game gets a C+.
