Summary
what happened to GR?
Pros: Interesting storyline. longer single player. i liked the few actual battle levels (i think there were 2). Big battles were absent from GR1 and GR: IT, but there were some in GR2. graphics were certainly better. 3rd person view is pretty cool. cant really make use of camo with the radar, but if you disable it, you can hide pretty good. some new weapons are pretty cool.
Cons: some of the things were sorta unrealistic. i dont care how much technology he has, i doubt the army would send one man into a city thats already completely destroyed, to take on an armored company alone, when they can just call in airstrikes. not to mention the city looked like stalingrad in 1942. i mean, i doubt in todays PC world, NATO would destroy a city that much. and i doubt that there would be that much destruction in a modern war, even a conventional one. again, in surgical base defense, how did an entire regiment get behind NATO lines without being detected and engaged before they hit the camp? I know the fog of war and eveything, but an entire regiment with all the satellites and UAV drones, you'd think they'd have been seen. another one, mentioned in another review, is when they send some of the best soldiers they have into an airfield getting mortared. They would at least have stopped the barrage once they got into the base. also i hate how linear it is now. except for a level here and there, theres only one path to take.
Reviewer's Comments
An ok game. i still miss GR1 and GR: IT. cool storyline. sometimes unrealistic. theres no more stealth and creeping along, its a fast paced action game, which is good and bad. the old GRs got boring sometimes, but if your looking for a close quarters action game, get rainbow six. i like the huge battle level where you hold the line with allies and the surgical base defense, where you and allies defend a medical base from attack. another one is where you laze a fuel depot and your extraction gets shot down and you have to cross a map with several small villages and towns filled with enemy soldiers and a few AFVs to reach alternate extraction. one of the few nonlinear missions there is. if your a GR fan, you might be a little disappointed, but you should get it anyways, for the few good missions there are.
