Pros: This game's gameplay is fast-paced, exciting, and can be quite random. The enemies may act unexpectedly, but will usually behave as you set them up to. Luring them is particularly easy in this game, using a character with a good defense/resistance to draw enemies away from the opposing herd, so that your weaker units can attack and gain exp. without the risk of being ganged up on.In addition to that, you can also gain bonus exp. to use before each battle for any character. Each unit has stats that suit him/her and train them to be either a longer range attacker or a front line fighter. My personal favorite is Nephenee, as she is an effective melee fighter from the start, and moves on to be a powerful Halbierder after her class change.
Cons: Even though this game features amazing music and an in-depth story line, you generally tune out the music during battles and you can just as easily skip over the story line as read it. My sister didn't know who Ashnard was the first time she went through it, or even know who most people were, but she still had absolutely no problem putting together a good team. Therefore, the story-line, as deep and interesting as it is, has no appeal to any people who would simply play through with no intention of reading.*If you don't like reading, then don't buy this game, as you will get bored very quickly.* Some characters who have the potential to be great come in just a bit late in the game and very weak. Some units where others of the same class are powerful, are weak(coughLuciacoughSothecoughTormodcough),and generally die before they can be useful or are just never useful at all. These units can just rot at the bottom of your selection roster, you'll probably never need them or even have the want to use them. There are a shortage of levels compared to the other Fire Emblem games, and the Bonus Trial Maps are just not satisfying enough.
Reviewer's Comments
Overall, this game is extremely good, and does not dissapoint to the other Fire Emblems. Near the end of the game, quite literally as it's the last two chapters, you feel the need to really only bring Ike to the front line, and really that's all you'll need (apart from a healer to heal Ike with his damage from Ashnard) due to his powerful sword Ragnell, with its infinite uses and its long-range capabilities.(Well, as long as you gave him the Aether skill so that he'll survive the onslaught of enemies.) Keep in mind to buy this game if you want increase your strategic abilities, are a Fire Emblem fan, or if you just like to read. Otherwise, go with a different game, like Dawn of War for the PC. On a side-note, this game is really a lot better than the pros/cons would show, I'm just better at poking holes than recognizing greatness.
