Summary
This could've been better
Pros:
the cool looking hovertanks that fooled me into buying the game without trying it first
Cons:
pretty much every single thing other than the visual design of the hovertanks, sadly this is not the good game it could (and should) have been, not even close
Reviewer's Comments
Graphics:
The quality of everything that appears onscreen, including the background, characters, objects, and movements.
My Score: Plain
My Comment: The design of the tanks is good but everything else is very plain looking, nothing stands out and it's just overall unimpressive and uninterresting to look at, it also feels like it's running at a very slow speed, I don't know if it's suppose to or if it's actual graphical slowdown but either way the game runs slow and looks dull.
Sound:
The background music, sound effects, character voices, and other audio cues.
My Score: Adequate
My Comment: It's not "bad" but it does nothing to excel either, it does what it has to and that's it.
The music is there but it follows the same formula, it's nothing you'll remember or ever feel the urge to play outside the game.
Control:
The accuracy and responsiveness of the controls.
My Score: Sloppy
My Comment: It works, but only barely. Some of the worst responding controls I've ever encountered on PSP and they do nothing to make the game better, they only add to the bitter taste of wasted potential.
Gameplay:
The action and excitement conveyed by the game.
My Score: Boring
My Comment: Slow gameplay combined with poor controls without any fun gameplay modes to play has to make this the least fun game with hovertanks that I know of. Just the idea of hovertanks in direct battle with eachother should've been impossible to fail this bad at, but somehow they still managed to suck every bit of fun out of it.
Replay:
Describes the lifespan and durability of the game over time.
My Score: None
My Comment: Why would anyone want to play this game ever again? I personally have no idea because I played it through with one team from start to finish and I never ever want to play it again.
Overall:
How the game ranks when compared to other titles.
My Score: Rental
My Comment: Don't buy this game no matter how much you think you want it, it's old school legacy and cool new designed tanks are not enough to save it from being garbage. The legacy of old has been broken and the cool looking tanks are only cool looking, not cool anything else.
If you still want to try it out reguardless of my warnings, it's best to borrow it from someone who made the mistake of buying it (like I did) or - if you have smart friends who have not bought it - just rent it over a weekend or something, as long as you don't buy it or pay full price for it!
I'm sure that you'll agree with what I've said if you actually do try it out for yourself, then you'll perhaps think back on how I was the one who told you to try it before you buy it, and then you will feel a great sense of gratitude towards me, and that - even though I will most likely never be aware of it - will make me happy too, knowing that I've saved You from making a dire mistake.
I would like to add that I have not played the two fairly new Battle Zone games on PC, only the really old arcade game, and in all honesty this new BattleZone is better than that really old arcade in just about every way, but only because that old game compared to todays standards would be virtually unplayable. However, the old game is still more fun to play because of how classic and old school it is.
